About Mrs. Fuentes

School Counselor

Hello! My name is Tanya Fuentes and I am the School Counselor at Benson Middle School. I am a proud mom of three, with years of experience working in the school and private practice. I enjoy building meaningful connections with students and families and supporting children as they grow socially, emotionally, and academically. I love living in Arizona and am so excited to work here at Benson Middle School.

In my role as a school counselor I will be working with students through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individual check-ins. I will also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of every student and family.

My goal is for each student to develop socially, emotionally, and academically, and continue to create a safe and positive environment in which each child can accomplish this goal.

Small groups will be available to students who may benefit from spending extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers and to students who are coping with similar life situations. You will be notified and sent a consent form if your child has been recommended for a small group and will need to provide consent before your child can begin in the group.

Check-ins can benefit students who may need some additional guidance and support when going through academic, social, or emotional challenges. While I do NOT provide clinical counseling services, I can use individual time with students to help them identify problems, causes, coping skills, and developing goals to take appropriate action. Whichever setting it may be in, I look forward to working with you and your children this school year.

I also provide resources and referrals to the community for behavioral health, basic needs support, and social service. Please see Parent and Family resources for more information.

At Benson WE RESPECT PARENTS AND THEIR VALUES. We operate on behalf of parents. It is our responsibility to assist parents in the education of their children. We value parental involvement, and will make every effort, involving best ethical practices and confidentiality, to involve parents and families in counseling plans, and respect the parental right of being the guiding voice in their child’s life.

In collaboration with teachers and staff, if a concern is identified communication with parents and/or guardians will always be facilitated.
